“So Long” is the musical project of Tim Ko. (short for Kochanski), a local Boston musician who hosts three weekly Open Mics in Brighton and Newton, and is the former songwriter/guitarist for Cotton Mouth, UMass Lowell’s popular grunge/jam band of the 90’s. The latest line-up of The Almighty Buck rocks out with Leah Ferjulian on bass/vocals, Jefferson Woods on drums and Erik Von Doetsch on fuzz guitar. The EP features creative guitar work, artful lyrics and a rootsy line-up of musicians, and caters to fans of Wilco, M.Ward, Monsters of Folk, Bright Eyes, My Morning Jacket, Bob Dylan, Neil Young.
The EP was recorded by Tim Ko., and was mixed and mastered by Joel Plante, Engineer at James Guthrie’s studio, Das Boot Recordings. Das Boot has mixed and remixed nearly every Pink Floyd release since “The Wall”. “So Long” follows The Almighty Buck’s 2003 album “Horse and Rider.” It features Jeff Dudziak on bass and Josh Fleischmann (of Israel Nash) on drums, plus guest appearances by Boston locals Michael Dion (Daemon Chili/Hot Day At The Zoo) and Jen Kearney (of The Lost Onion).
Track 1 of the EP, “Your Favorite Song,” is the focus single. It features tongue-in-cheek digs at playing in a band in the modern day with lyrics like “...bands are out of style, music turned digital”. Track 5, “A Fireman’s Mustache,” is a coming-to-terms song of Tim Ko.’s, describing the one-year anniversary of 9/11 when hours of enormous winds shook all of NYC during the reading of the victims’ names. Track 2, “Ravin’ Mae Renee,’” is a male/female duet depicting a Romeo & Juliet-esq. love song about a Detroit rave girl and New York folksinger boy.
